Lake Louise Playground Weaverville NC

Lake Louise is the perfect suburb park, playground, and picnic area. It is about 10 minutes North of Asheville and it is a great asset to the Weaverville community. I know when I stop by, one kid runs to play with the ducks, the teens want to jog around the lake, some of the others jump in one of the playgrounds, while the others run over to the other smaller play area. I like to hang out on the benches meeting some of the great residents here in Weaverville.

Weaverville North Carolina is a strong community with the local Weaverville Police Department backed by the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department, and North Carolina State Troopers. Woodfin is also right next door to Weaverville, so their Police always supports this area as well.

Our Course Is Recognized As A Golfing Jewel Of Western North Carolina

Reems Creek Golf Club in Weaverville, N.C. offers a secluded setting that captures the splendor and rustic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and that has regularly won four stars in Golf Digest's “Places to Play.” Lots of the holes on this par-72 mountain course have elevation changes that test your ability to pick the right club to fit our terrain. You'll also find that most of our par-4s here are almost target holes that require accuracy and strategy. One example of a great placement hole is our 5th. You're hitting downhill on this short par-4 (348 yards from the back and 251 from the front). You'll see a large lake off to the left along the fairway and another one in front of the green. It can be hard to play this hole without crossing water. “It's our signature hole,” said Larry Carter, our director of golf. “It's not a tough hole, but when there's water to cross, it can be interesting.” The 9th hole here is a great par-5 that plays at 532 yards from the back and 455 from the forward tees). “You tee off and hit up to a plateau about 200 yards from the tee box where you'll make your second shot,” Carter said. “Then you hit downhill while trying to avoid the bunkers in front of the green. It's hard to reach the green in two; you really need two good shots to do it.” Our 12th hole (542 yards from the back and 419 from the front) is a par-4 that requires you to hit you ball up to the landing area. “The green slopes from right to left and you may find that your putt here will move very quickly,” Carter said.
On the 16th, a par-4, playing at 358 yards from the back and 268 from the front, has a pond to cross off the tee and a second lake at about 220 yards down the fairway. The fairway is nestled into an area that provides one of most picturesque views up the valley. You'll be making your second shot over the lake to a two-tiered green. You want to hit your drive about 200 to 210 yards to get as close as you can to the second pond. “But if you go too long,” said Carter, “you're in the water.” Our 18th, another great par-5, measuring 522 yards from the back and 456 from the front, can easily be viewed from the clubhouse dining room. So do you best as you putt out to impress the other golfers who are eating lunch and watching you from up above. You'll need to watch out for the lake off to the left as you pitch up to a much higher green or you could become the center of attraction.

Course distances, ratings and slopes: Blue 6,492 yards (71.9/133); White 6,106 (70.2/126); Red 4,605 (68.1/122).

Riddle Law Firm in Weaverville

Norman worked out of his basement for years off of Reems Creek. He does pretty peaceful law, in that he works on real estate transactions with banks, etc. mostly in the Asheville area. I remember a friend of mine got in a conflict and went to see Norman Riddle... and he was like "Wrong Attorney, no litagation here". The Riddle Law Office is now located in the building right across from Ingles Grocery off of the New Stock Rd exit where Weaverville and Woodfin intersect. 828-299-1515.

The renovation of the Church moves ahead. I believe all the painting and repair of the exterior will be done by this Sunday. The exterior of the Church is looking wonderful. We are receiving another gift of five thousand dollars for the building fund/renovation work. So that brings us to a total of thirty thousand dollars towards the forty thousand dollar challenge gift. Ten thousand more and we will make that goal and have enough funds to complete phase II & III of the renovation.

Morning Traffic on Reems Creek in Weaverville NC

Just a quick picture showing the traffic waiting to get off of Reems Creek Road and onto Merrimon. As this area of Weaverville grows, making this a 4 lane would be a little bit of a task, but I believe the Town of Weaverville and Buncombe County will work it out. Of course you can head up Hamburg Mountain Road or Dogwood Road to go into Downtown Weaverville and North, but this is the road most people use when heading to Asheville, etc.

Recently Resigned Weaverville Police Sergeant found dead 12/13/08

MARS HILL – The Madison County Sheriff's Department and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of a former police officer who resigned his position as a sergeant with the Weaverville Police Department earlier this month after he was arrested and charged with assault.

Andy Cody, 38, died Friday night or Saturday morning, law enforcement officials said Saturday. No one from the Madison County Sheriff's Department was available to provide details Saturday, though the police chiefs from both Weaverville and Mars Hill confirmed Cody's death.
“He's not with us anymore,” Weaverville Police Chief Greg Stephens told the News-Record & Sentinel. “We've lost a good man. He will certainly be missed.” Mars Hill Police Chief D.K. Lewis said he responded to the death scene overnight but couldn't comment on the case because the Sheriff's Department is investigating. Lewis was visibly upset when asked about Cody, who was once a lieutenant in his department. Lewis said he responded to the scene “for the family,” but was not involved in the investigation. Mars Hill police officers had their badges covered with black mourning ribbon Saturday as they worked directing traffic and providing traffic control at the Mars Hill Christmas parade. Stephens said he was helping with funeral arrangements Saturday morning, but said he couldn't share specific details about Cody's death.

Cody was arrested Dec. 2 at his home in Mars Hill and charged with simple assault after deputies responded to complaints of a domestic disturbance at Cody's home. “There were obvious signs of domestic violence,” Madison County Sheriff's Capt. Buddy Harwood said at the time.Released on a promise to appear, Cody then sought and received a domestic violence order of protection against Angela Tweed, 38, whose relationship with Cody was described in court documents as “unmarried, of opposite sex, currently or formerly living together.” Cody, who had worked with the Weaverville Police Department for six years, resigned the same day, Stephens said. “We're certainly going to miss him,” Stephens said, describing Cody as a “good worker; a good employee. He was a good person, and a good friend,” Stephens said. Calls to the medical examiner and the SBI were not returned. ***End of ACT story

We all grieve and mourn the death of Weaverville Police Officer Andy Cody. He was under a lot of pressure and maybe embarrased over a recent scuffle; even to the point that he recently resigned. Please let the community know what we can do to help. We have lost a great citizen.

Weaverville Breakfast at Granny's Kitchen (what is going to happen?)

Granny's restaurant, lunch spot, breakfast stop, hole in the wall... whatever you wish to call it, is a little behind the times. I remember years ago they were talking about remodeling the building. Then they mentioned an addition to the existing structure. Now I think they are just waiting for someone to buy them out and build something there. The Weaverville Hardee's that was across the street diagonally went out of business due to mismanagement when it comes down to it. I stopped going because it looked unkept totally from the outside, then I walked it and got bad attitudes and service, and the Manager was constantly behind the counter eating. It kind of made me lose my appetite.

Granny's is a great place for a quick snack, home cookin, breakfast and lunch specials, and periodic desserts. Some people call it the "greasy spoon" because there is nothing "Green" about the place (well I did see they had some fruit one day, lol). Country Cooking in the raw, maybe just lightly blended to match the mixed clientel around Weaverville. Contractors and subcontractors (as well as regulars and locals) fill this place up for breakfast and lunch. You have to go outside (and then in another side door) to use the bathroom, so it is kinda the outhouse effect. I remember years ago, they used to ask what type of ham... City or Country. I did not know at the time, but quickly realized "City" ham was what I wanted. For those of you who do not know what Country Ham is; it is a slab of thick ham and covered in salt. Throw that "slab" on a biscuit with some eggs and breakfast was served. I think it comes from back in the days before we had refrigerators and food slicers. I like my ham thin, and the Boar's Head brand if available.

Granny's has been around for years, but with the area growth, they will be forced to make a move soon or get run over by incoming chain restaurants and competition. Businesses are going to eat the New Stock Road exit in Weaverville NC alive. There is too much room and it is the perfect connector to Woodfin and North Asheville. Granny... can you please tell us your plans!

Weaverville North Carolina Construction & Development

Here is the first of many buildings being constructed in Weaverville NC right up the street from Lake Louise (Between Reems Creek and the Lake on Old Weaverville Hwy/Merrimon). There will be hundreds of residential units going in here. It is a very big project and the Developers are out of South Carolina.

Weaverville NC Cell Phones by US Cellular

First of all, they have a nice feng-shui in this store (and even more with people everywhere)... which makes this store inviting. The colors are also well placed, with ads and spice balanced all around the store. US Cellular has been one of the top runners in great service (cell and customer) in the mountains of Weaverville. When cell phones were first introduced, they only covered Asheville and then the highway that went through Weaverville. Residents were like "WHAT?!?!" Now everything is "cell phone beautiful" with Verizon and US Cellular making major advances in the area. Even SkyRunner out of Asheville is running high speed wireless internet into these Weaverville mountains, and making sure we are covered. Thank you Skyrunner. I know a few whole mountains in Weaverville that run wireless from Skyrunner. Being able to go relax on your acreage with a little laptop keeping you in touch with the world... when you want to of course.

Here is one of the best places to stop and grab a quick and complete bite when you are North of Asheville. Grab your sub/hero sandwich and get some healthy yogurt to clean the palette. I love what Mr. Pitts did here in combining both businesses into a joint opportunity for all of us. I asked around Weaverville about this "Mr. Pitts" and he is like a modest local hero down here. I mean, he is actively involved in the community, works for the North Buncombe School District, runs these businesses, sponsors teens to play on sports teams, and more. You will just have to meet this guy one day. He is a picture of the type of great local people that make up this nice Weaverville community we all call home. Thank you!

Mexican Restaurant in Weaverville North Carolina

Chapala has been in the Asheville / Buncombe County area for years. They have their main store on Merrimon Ave, and this smaller one in Weaverville. Just enough to stay pretty packed with low overhead. I have personally eaten at both of these restaurants several times, and always enjoy it. The one in North Asheville is on Merrimon Avenue, right next to SteinMart in that side strip of stores behind the Bank of America. The one in Weaverville is right next to Little Ceasars in the Food Lion Shopping Center (or as some still call it, the "Roses Shopping Center").

Body Found Right Around The Corner, in Barnardsville NC

Buncombe County Deputies investigate the discovery of a female body under a bridge on Highway 197 near Barnardsville. A DOT worker found the body while conducting a routine inspection of the bridge Monday afternoon.

Investigators are not giving out many details about the case, but say the body will be sent to Chapel Hill Tuesday for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
They are also checking to see if the body matches any local missing persons reports.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office at 828-250-6670.

I just love how they are using YouTube to get their message out there. It does not matter if you are a Church, a Tree Trimmer, a local Business, or whatever; use the resources that are available to you. Many churches everywhere get "Left Behind" with new innovation, new platforms, and new conduits. With all the Churches in Buncombe County, Weaverville, and Asheville... I have only met one Missionary on MySpace and that is Pastor Dave. I have also met one person "witnessing" on Facebook and that is Pastor Ricky Bowen of North Asheville Baptist Church. Not trying to promote the brow beating at all, lol, but balanced faith could be a good thing for many. With the new Super Wal-Mart opening in Weaverville North Carolina, McDonalds is almost obligated to "hook us up" with one of those new McCafe's. I mean they are putting one in Old Fort, 5 in Asheville, and several in other areas, but nothing out here. We want the better, healthier stuff too Ronald. Please consider. Oh, How Long Will Roses Really Last

Roses Department Store is one of the last in the area and it will most likely not survive after the Super Wal-Mart right down the road opens up. Employess will probably be the first to run for more secure jobs, and their clients will quickly follow. Many other great stores in this shopping center in Weaverville, but they need a leader to fill in this position quickly to go along with the growth on all 4 corners. Weaverville is going to be a shoppers heaven with shopping for about 1/2 each way on both sides on the highway. We know Ingles is doing all of their expansion now, and would expect this strip to make some moves in the Roses space very quickly or suffer loss. McDonald's making that a McCafe would be awesome too.

Reems Creek Village - Perfect Weaverville Setting

This new development that was about to take of before the market dropped is getting ready to perk up again pretty soon. Everyone is just catching their breath and hoping the the new President produces a miracle with the help of us all.

Weaverville Police Department Cruisers

Everyone is going with these "tough" Dodge Charger police cruisers nowadays. Woodfin has the grills and everything. Weaverville Police are pretty cool and balanced. They run a safe, nice community over here in Western North Carolina.

Weaverville Ingles expands expecting Wal-Mart to explode

Bob Ingle has his sights focused on getting this Weaverville Commons Ingles up to par to match the new Super Wal-Mart and Lowe's being constructed less than a mile away. You can see the new addition that D. Michael Ward Construction out of Asheville is working on, and several other structures. Weaverville North Carolina is a little bit north of Asheville and the perfect suburb community, not too little anymore... after all of this.

Meadows in the Woods, Reems Creek Weaverville

Meadows in the woods was one of the first developments in the Reems Creek area that did selective cutting (only for roads and house pads). The development entrance is on the left here, right before the Reems Creek "fishing" lakes (they have a sign now that says "no fishing"). Also see the beautiful fall colors on the mountains. This area is absolutely gorgeous and so peaceful.

I was at the bottom of Main Street in Weaverville, right below the elementary school, looked to my left, Reems Creek below (see the road), looked up and saw the awe of the mountains. Beautiful. Turkeys Arrive Early 4 Thanksgiving in Weaverville

Driving down the road in Weaverville could be very eventful. I have almost hit several bears, deer, turkeys, chickens, and even a cow one day right down the road from this photo. Possums and Racoons are normal, and become the neighborhood roadkill many times, lol. I remember this lady I was driving with one day hit a Possum, pulled over, and tried to revive the dead thing. I was rolling! Here are some wild turkeys just roaming around Hamburg Mountain Rd in Weaverville NC.

Okay... let me tell you where I am. I am on the corner of Hamburg Mountain Road and Main Street in Weaverville North Carolina. I can turn left here and take a winding road up and down to Reems Creek. As you look ahead here, you see the Preservation Hall on the left, with a Church, library, and Blue Mountain Pizza after. Look at the mountains in the skyline. Absolutely beautiful. The perfect little Town of Weaverville!

Brand new building in Weaverville, available

When we all saw these two buildings going up in Weaverville, we were pretty excited. Then the market dropped, and this job quickly turned into a ghost project. Several other buildings were planned to go up behind these two road front structures, but I believe they have been put on hold. Madison Sheriff makes arrest in Buncombe

Madison County Sheriffs had to "cross the line" to make this arrest. This is at the Weaverville Ingles on Weaver Blvd. Seems like detectives held the man until the police arrived.

North Asheville Wal-Mart Coming Soon

Here is a quick pic of the new Wal-Mart that is under construction in Weaverville North Carolina. The Lowe's building is also under construction to the left of this photo and will be completed first (or so it seems). As soon as Wal-Mart opens, this whole Weaverville area will change, mostly for the better. Most locals are excited, but there is always that group that is against anything changing. This is about 10% of the community which is pretty good considering some of the other places that Wal-Mart tried to go and got "booted".
